After graduating
from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1986, Mr. Hawkins began
his professional career as a newspaper reporter for Longview News-Journal.
It was while reporting on education news that he became interested
in pursuing a career as a teacher. However, he became copy editor at
both the Longview and the Tyler Courier-Times and worked as a laborer
and dispatcher for Otis Engineering Corp. in Longview before the opportunity
came for him to return to school and earn his teacher certification.
Mr. Hawkins began his teaching career in 1993 in the Longview Independent
School District, where he worked at Pinewood Park Elementary and Hudson
PEP Elementary schools until 2003. LISD then employed him as assistant
principal for Forest Park Middle School for the 2003-2004 school year.
Mr. Hawkins was hired by Beckville Independent School District as principal
of Beckville Sunset Elementary School in August 2004. |
